The battle for life, liberty,
and the pursuit of happiness–and equality for all citizens of the United States
of America–has been long and hard.
Generation after generation, people have passionately fought to
establish freedom and equality for all, no matter the color of skin, sex,
religion, sexual orientation, physical disability, or social position.
It should be the hope of all of us that one day in the 21st
century there will be an end to the horrific atrocities that have plagued the
world, and that peace, freedom and equality will be in the minds and actions of
all earth’s inhabitants. It may be a
hope and a dream that appears impossible–but what is life without a dream?
It was Thomas Jefferson who said, “I like the dreams of
the future better than the history of the past.”
So let’s hang onto the dream that with each
new day the world grows better.
